Cognitive and Educational Assessments
We provide cognitive and full educational assessments for children experiencing learning difficulties, dyslexia, intellectual disability or giftedness. Your child may benefit from a cognitive assessment if you have concerns for your child experiencing an intellectual disability, or wish to gain some initial information regarding your child’s cognitive strengths, challenges and preferred learning styles. A cognitive assessment is sometimes required to assist with receiving funding for your child at school. Your child may benefit from a full educational assessment if you have concerns regarding specific learning challenges, dyslexia (specific reading) or dyscalculia (specific maths) difficulties, or for children presenting as gifted. You may also wish to complete an educational assessment if you want some detailed information of your child’s learning strengths and challenges and their preferred learning style. A detailed but easy to understand report is then provided and the assessing psychologist provides a full explanation of the results and guidance into supports and treatment if needed.Autism Assessment and Diagnosis
We provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The assessment process includes obtaining information in parent sessions, from kindergarten or school teachers, and using the ADOS-2 “gold standard” assessment for ASD. A detailed but easy to understand report is then provided and the assessing psychologist provides a full explanation of the results and guidance into supports and treatment if needed.Early Intervention Therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Lakeside Psychology is an approved provider of Early Intervention therapy using the ‘Helping Children with Autism’ program. Your child may be eligible for this funding package if your child receives a diagnosis of ASD before the age of 6, and this can be used until your child turns seven. To access this funding package, contact Amaze (Autism Victoria) or contact Lakeside Psychology for more information.

What we can help with
We can help your child manage things like anxiety, sadness, grief, anger, bed wetting, coping with separation as well as psychological disorders such as ADHD and autism. Our psychologists can also help adolescents manage a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, low self-esteem and self-harm. Our psychologists can also help with anxiety and depression during and after pregnancy in mums and dads, as well as helping parents connect better with their children from birth through to adolescents.
Food Without Fuss Group Program
This program is designed to help parents manage difficulties around fussy eating in children, eating too little or too much, and poor mealtime behaviour. Leah Henzen (Psychologist) teaches parents and carers proven strategies that will take the stress out of food and feeding your toddler, child or adolescent. Food Without Fuss includes a two-hour group program followed by a problem-solving session a fortnight later where parents and carers can gain assistance with any difficulties they have experienced with using the strategies taught in the program.
We provide school presentations upon request. So if you have an idea on what you’d like to see presented at your child’s school, speak to them and contact us so that we can organize an event.
